Recreation fees to increase in BG next year

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Parks and Recreation fees in Bowling Green will be increasing next year.

The Parks and Recreation Department says raising the fees in increments allows them to stay on budget.

So far, they've announced that summer camps will increase by $6, a season pass for the pool will go up by $15, and a pass for the year to the community center will increase by $20.

Parks and Recreation Director Michelle Grigore says a survey they conducted showed that many in the community do not want to see a program reduction.

"We know that over 80 percent of the people think that parks are very important in their life, and many of those people participate in parks and rec activities, so we want to be able to continue to provide and meet those needs, and not have to cut back on programming," she said.

The fee increase will take effect on January 1, 2015.
