EDITORIAL: Uniting to improve downtown Toledo

(Toledo News Now) -

A few weeks back I completed an online survey that dealt with the future of downtown Toledo.  It was sent to 20 stakeholders with prominent downtown locations.

The driving force behind the survey was Joe Napoli.  He is a powerful advocate for developing the city.  He believes in the incredible potential in both commercial and residential development - if we can get our act together.

Historically, that has been a big "if."  But it doesn't have to be. I know there are plenty of people in town like Joe Napoli: people with vision and courage and the creativity to seek what could be.

It's time for all of northwest Ohio to rise up in unison and say, "We all get better when downtown gets better."  And then we have to stick together and vanquish the opponents of growth.  We have to silence the critics with the power of belief.

We can stand up to anyone and anything if we stand together.  Otherwise, we can all tuck tail and whimper while the traditional obstacles and obstructionists defiantly cling to the illusion of significance.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
