TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The man accused of killing a local business owner was in court Tuesday. Terry Hayes faced a judge for the first time at Common Pleas Court on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.

Hayes is accused of killing Ricky Layson, co-owner of R & D Auto, during a robbery at the Layson's car dealership earlier this month.

Layson's sister sat feet behind the man accused of killing her brother. She says the past two weeks have been difficult for her and her family.

"I miss him, I love him," Rikia Layson said of her brother. "I hate I'm not able to call him, talk to him, see him, because someone wants to act stupid with a senseless killing that was very unnecessary."

Rikia says the past two weeks have been especially hard for Layson's children.

"They're trying to maintain," she said. "They're taking it real hard. His girls is taking it real hard. It's just hard."

In court Tuesday, an attorney was appointed to represent Hayes, and the judge lowered his bond from $2 million to $1 million.

"Hopefully justice will be served because that was a senseless killing," Rikia said. "He could have asked my brother for anything and he would have gave it to him."

Hayes will be back in court in September.
