PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) - Perrysburg Schools is installing video cameras inside their buses and vans in an effort to increase safety for students and district employees.

Three cameras will be installed on 35 buses, capturing all angles of the students and drivers.

Drivers will have access to a panic button which will mark recorded video with a timestamp, allowing officials to review footage should an emergency occur.

The total cost of the project is around $48,000.

We talked to the school transportation director about how this will improve safety, cut down on bullying, and also how the new panic buttons work.

"Students will know that we're able to see what they're doing on the bus, which is a great tool for drivers," said Perrysburg Schools Transportation Supervisor Ellen Moser.

Parents in the area say they think this is agreat idea, and they fully support it.

Stephanie Eberhart has two children in thePerrysburg School District, and says she hopes that this system will helpincrease safety, and reduce bullying.

"I have a daughter who's younger, and Ifeel there's maybe some bullying going on that's not being caught, and maybejust things being said and done on the bus that aren't appropriate, that wedon't catch on to," she said.
