MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Maumee City Council has approved $1.5 million to be spent on repaving projects in the city for the rest of the year.

Council had originally budgeted $800,000 for the repaving program, but after further review, they decided to increase the budget.

"With the harsh winter that we had, we felt the need," said Howard Brebberman, from the city's service department. "Some roads were in disrepair, and if we could, we wanted to get some more street miles done."

Cass and Allen are a couple of the streets that will see work. Brebberman says the work is called "mill and fill."

"We take the top portion of the pavement off and put down a new, fresh layer," he said.

Not everyone in Maumee agrees with the spending.

"I don't think they need it," said Rod McDevitt, who has lived in Maumee over 4 decades. "Maybe in some places we need it, but I haven't been down all the roads, but most of the roads seem pretty good."

The extra money will come from the city's capital account. Officials say work is expected to start next month and should wrap up by the end of October.

The city will repave the following streets:

- Allen, Cass, Rosamond and Duane streets between Harrison and William streets

- Eastfield Drive from Dussel to Greenfield

- Cass Road from the railroad tracks to the turnpike

- Dussel Drive from Key Street to Cass Road

- Michigan Avenue from River Road to the turnpike

- Anthony Wayne Trail from Detroit Avenue to Monclova Road

- River Road from Jerome Road to the turnpike

- Russell Road from Fallen Timbers to Monclova

- Detroit Avenue from Anthony Wayne Trail to River Road

- Ford Street
