TPD: Shootings down compared to last year

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It seems like there have been a lot of shootings in Toledo lately, but Toledo Police continue to tell us violent crimes are down.

A look at police records confirms there were fewer shootings in June of this year than there were in June of 2013 – from 46 shootings down to 29. Police confiscated 72 firearms in June this year. Last June, that number was only 60.

As for July, when there has been a rash of gang-related gun activity, Toledo Police say they won't release any comparison information until August, saying it wouldn't be a fair comparison until the month is over.
