SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Tuesday was a beautiful day for golf, and the professionals took to the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania for practice.

The LPGA Marathon Classic doesn't officially begin until later this week, but there are still plenty of people in town for the early events. Local businesses are hoping fans and players will head downtown while they're in the area.

Owners of Chandler's Café say their customer traffic doubles during the Marathon Classic.

"We have to put more staff on, we have to order more food, obviously," said Laurie Stansley, co-owner of the café. "It's just nice seeing everyone walking around downtown."

The restaurants aren't the only businesses that do well. C'est La Vie boutique is holding a special sale to drive golf fans inside.

"We have beautiful weather right now," said owner Katherine Volpi. "It's cool, it's sunny, so we hope they will take advantage of that and come and see us."

"The Marathon Classic brings a lot of excitement to our whole community, but really here in the downtown," added Sylvania Mayor Craig Stough. "We see a lot more foot traffic into our shops, our restaurants, our hotel than we see through the rest of the year."

Stough says about 15-20,000 people will visit Highland Meadows each day this week, which gives local businesses the opportunity to reach more customers.

"It is very exciting to have all these visitors in our community," he said.
