BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) - Bowling Green Police areinvestigating an attempted abduction that occurred Monday afternoon, justoutside the police station.

Police say a woman triedto lure a girl into her car just after 4 p.m. near the intersection of ChurchStreet and Wooster.

"She looked over, made eyecontact with the passenger (of the suspect vehicle), then [the suspect] againsaid get in the vehicle and started opening the door," explained Major tonyHetrick of the BG Police. "So she ran to the police building and came insideand told dispatchers what just happened."

After reviewingsurveillance video of the intersection, investigators found footage of a carthat they believe may be the suspect's vehicle: an early '90s mid-sized graysedan.

"It did not have a clearplate, so that's what we would have to find, and some characteristics of thatvehicle that would match the video," Major Hetrick said.

The passenger thatallegedly tried to lure the girl into the vehicle was described as a heavy-setwoman, possibly in her mid-thirties, with a short, buzzed haircut.

Hetrick says the child wasvery alarmed when she came to the police station, so they are treating theincident as an attempted abduction, but they would like whoever is responsibleto come forward and tell police their side of the story, just in case it wasall a misunderstanding.

"If this person's outthere and knows that they were in the vicinity of Church and Wooster, andtalked to a young child and the child took off from them, it would be great ifthey would just come to us and tell us, 'Hey, this is what happened,'" Hetricksaid.

The police also urge allchildren to do exactly what the girl in this case did, if they ever findthemselves in a similar situation – never get in the car with or talk tostrangers.

Anyone with information onthis incident is asked to call the Bowling Green Police at 419-352-8775.
