Former deputy in court on charges of rape, abduction

Garwood in court

WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - A former Wood County deputy appeared in court for an arraignment on Tuesday.

Dusty Garwood has been charged with rape, sexual battery and abduction – all felony charges. The victim was reportedly an inmate of the Wood County Justice Center while Garwood was working as a guard.

Garwood was arraigned last December on two other counts of gross sexual imposition and one count of sexual battery. He pleaded not guilty to all three charges. The charge of sexual battery has since been dismissed.

The prosecutor in the cases says he plans to file a motion to combine the two cases, because both cases involve the same victim. Garwood's attorney, however, will most likely appeal that motion.

A pretrial hearing has been set for August 19 at 3:15 p.m. for both cases. A pretrial may follow on September 2 at 8:30 a.m.
