Cleveland wins recommendation to host 2016 Republican National Convention

CLEVELAND, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The RNC Site Selection Committee has chosen Cleveland as the city to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.

The announcement came down just before noon Tuesday.

Now that a decision has been made, formal negotiations will begin here in Cleveland followed by final vote among all committee members at the RNC's Summer Meeting next month in Chicago.

Cleveland made an aggressive pitch to the Site Selection Committee when they visited last month. RNC advisers returned to the city just last week to look over technical aspects.

Meanwhile, Democratic National Committee officials begin visits next week.
