Springfield Twp donates property to Habitat for Humanity

Land that used to be a dump site is set to become the place one family in need will call home.

Springfield Township has donated land at Hill and Medberry to Habitat for Humanity. The property has some history. Fifteen years ago, someone started to build on the site and discovered trash. After a legal battle, the township took over the land.

Township officials say they thought the land would never be put to good use. Now that the EPA has cleared the property, the township has found a way to put it to use and give back.

"We have since then had the EPA come in," said Trustee Andy Glenn. "They have done testing on this site and surrounding sites. They said that there are no hazards present, so they completely cleared the land. It is safe to live on, there are no remaining issues with it and Habitat is excited to get it."

The final vote to donate the property will be Monday at 7 p.m.
