Heavy showers flood sink hole in west Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

This week's heavy showers caused major problems in a west Toledo neighborhood.

A sink hole in the 36-hundred block of Garrison Road has flooded, prompting a partial closure of the street. The hole is estimated to be about 3-feet deep.

Local resident Andrew Cramer said that he first noticed the hole 2 months ago.

"It has slowly grown, but yesterday, with all the rain that we got, it exasperated the whole issue," said Cramer.

Cramer went on to describe how the sink hole expanded right in front of him.

"You could hear the mud from right under the road, just being pulled down in," said Cramer. "After it stopped raining, the hole started to collapse in."

City officials report that sewer line must be fixed before they can address the sink hole.  They plan to fix the sewer line on July 1 or 2. They then hope to repave and re-open the road.
