FREMONT, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Fremont police are investigating a bizarre attack against one of their officers.

The 500 block of May Street in Fremont is the location where a police officer suffered a severe bite. The bite was not from a dog, but from a man.

The 36-year-old man is accused of taking a major bite out of police K-9 handler George Dorsey. Police say Officer Dorsey was assisting EMS with getting the man out of the house. Police say there is suspicion the man was under the influence of drugs.

"It's not a bite, it was a vicious attack. Something like an animal would do. He took a whole mouthful of skin and meat off his forearm," said Chief Tim Wiersma, Fremont Police Department.

Many people living in the neighborhood say they had seen and heard a lot of commotion Friday night.

"They said it a big old chunk. They took the cop out first, and then they had to taze him or whatever to get him out of there," said Fremont resident Ezekiel Jones.

Officer Dorsey is resting at home and waiting for surgery on his forearm. Police say they will charge the suspect with felonious assault.

Other iterations included the Blades, the Hornets, the Goaldiggers and the Storm. For a short time, in 1949-50, the team was actually called the Toledo Buckeyes.
