Bullet holes discovered in glass at remodeled north Toledo fire station

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Construction workers discovered two bullet holes in glass at north Toledo's recently remodeled Fire Station 3. A TFD spokesperson says it is unclear whether the holes were made by bullets from a pellet gun or a real firearm.

Firefighters are saying the bullet holes are a black eye to the community. They are right in front of the kitchen. One person community member said he heard pellet gun shots on Sunday night. Other neighbors say are disappointed that this happened.

Neighbors in north Toledo say they think it's extreme that someone may have targeted Fire Station 3.

"They got cameras up there, so hopefully the camera will catch them," said north Toledo resident Robert Alford.

"There are cameras here at the station, but they are not active at this time," said Butch Rahe, public information officer.

Now, the cameras will be active. The assistant fire chief says because of the incident, they will now turn the cameras on early. This is something they originally were not planning on.

Firefighters were supposed to move into the station this weekend, but now this may push the move-in date back. The windows will be replaced at the price tag of $3,000 and will most likely be covered by their building insurance.

The station was dedicated last week, but crews had not even moved in yet. Workers are still putting the finishing touches on the building.

"We reopened it, dedicated it to our lost firefighters Steve Machcinski and Jamie Dickman. We had a celebration, and to hear that somebody purposely took aim at the building is very disheartening and very concerning to me," said Karen Marquardt, Assistant Chief of Toledo Fire Department.

The windows are expected to be replaced by the end of the week. If you have any information on who may have done this please call Crime Stopper at 419-255-1111.
