College of Charleston Head Baseball Coach Monte Lee is one of the top choices to become the next head coach at Arizona State according to a report from Perfect Game on Friday night.
Kendall Rogers tweeted "Hearing from sources in Arizona that #CofC's Monte Lee is the leader in that coaching search." Rogers said a decision could come early next week.
Coach Lee continued to have no comment on the Sun Devils coaching search. CofC Athletic Director Joe Hull told Live 5 Sports that Lee is "an excellent coach and I hope he stays with the Cougars"Baseball America was the 1st to report last weekend that Lee was a candidate for the job. He was scheduled to head out to Phoenix to interview for the job during the week.
Lee just completed his 6th, and by most accounts, best season with the Cougars leading the team to the Super Regionals for just the 2nd time in program history with a 44-19 record. He's compiled a record of 231-130 in his time with the College and led them to 3 NCAA tournament appearances.
He's also led the team to a Southern Conference regular season title and the tournament title from the school's inaugural year in the CAA.
Arizona State is looking to replace Tim Emsay who was let go last week after 5 seasons.
The Sun Devils job would, most likely, provide a good size raise for Lee. Emsay made close to $200,000 this season after getting an extension in 2013. Lee made just over $115,000 with the College this season.
