Editorial: Drivers must slow down and watch out for kids this summer

(Toledo News Now) -

It finally feels like summer. In case you hadn't noticed, thousands and thousands of children have been turned loose to have fun. For people driving vehicles it means one thing: slow down!

The kids will be out there and being kids. They are apt to do unpredictable and unwise things. That includes racing in front of a moving car or truck to catch a ball or chase a friend, or cutting across a street on a bike in between parked cars without looking or slowing down.

These bad decisions do not have to end badly. If you are driving through a neighborhood, slow down. Anticipate the unexpected. Just a little bit of caution might avoid a disaster that could forever change your life, and the life of a child and his or her family.

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - It's no secret that firefighters can get sick with cancer because of many of the things they must do on the job. Now, there's a national effort to help them.
