ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Tuesday June 17 marks one week since Scott Warren Henning escaped from the county courthouse in Adrian.

The Lenawee County Sheriff's Office says Henning escaped his holding cell at the courthouse as he was waiting for transportation to the jail when a door lock malfunctioned around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. The sheriff says Henning was sentenced to 93 days in the Lenawee County jail for Violation of Probation on a Reckless Driving charge.

Henning's attorney says now his client is afraid to turn himself in. The defense attorney says Henning and his family were not financially prepared for the 93 day reckless driving sentence Henning was given. The lawyer says Henning was not expecting jail time as part of his punishment.

Now, Henning faces felony charges related to the escape.

Henning is 6 foot tall, weighs about 180 pounds and is wearing a blue shirt and gray pants.

The undersheriff says agencies immediately began a search for this man and worked together to notify people and businesses nearby to lock their doors.

"With the cooperation of the city police department and other local departments the area was canvassed. We sent out our code red system which told people in the area to let them know that somebody had escaped. Some of the schools when on lockdown," said Jim Anderson.

Residents say they want Henning found and off the streets.

"I think a felony would be a good punishment. You don't run away. You just save that stuff for the court. Putting it into your own hands, what could you really expect," said Nicole Rubago.

Police say Henning fled west of the courthouse and was last seen on Miles Drive in Adrian. Officials have said they do not believe Henning is in the immediate Adrian area anymore. They say he is from Swanton and think he may have tried to head back to Ohio.

The Lenawee County Sheriff's Office says Henning is believed to be hiding out somewhere in Fulton County.

Anyone who sees the man or has information should call 911 immediately.
