The memory of a very popular high school science teacher will now live on forever.

As students walk up and down the hallways at Whitmer they will now come across the Zielinski Science Resource Center. It is in honor of Paul Zielinski, a much loved science teacher who passed away in January.

"Paul was an amazing teacher who could reach kids at all levels, even kids that were most challenging," said Bernadette Terry, science teacher at Whitmer High School.

The memory of this profound teacher is what brought out dozens of teachers, school officials, family and friends to the dedication of the science center. Zielinski worked at the school for more than 29 years. He suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 56 just five months shy of retiring.

"We hope by dedicating this science lecture hall to him that his legacy will continue on. That every time a kid walks in there, they see him and what he gave to our institution and he has touched thousands of lives," said Patrick Hickey, Superintendent of Washington Local Schools.

The lives that Zielinski touched the most are that of his family. His wife and daughters are thankful and grateful for the support they have received since his passing.

"I just can't believe the people, how they've come and done these things and gotten behind him," said Marianne Zielinski.

In addition to the science center, an ongoing scholarship fund has been set up in Paul Zielinski's honor.
