TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ohio Secretary of State John Husted has removed Ron Rothenbuhler, Jon Stainbrook and Tony DeGidio from the Lucas County Board of Elections.

The removal comes after a transparency committee sent to Lucas County by the secretary recommended all three, along with the board's director and deputy director, resign their positions.

Lucas County Board of Elections Director Gina Kaczala will remain in place until a new board is sworn in. At that time, Husted says the new board will fill her position.

John Irish, the only member of the board the committee did not recommend resign, as been suspended until new board members are sworn in. Husted says Irish is not subject to removal from the board, but was suspended temporarily because of his actions on election night back in May.

Secretary Husted says he hopes the move will remove the "culture of dysfunction that plagued the Lucas County Board of Elections."

"I think they can be productive and are good with their community but not always together. I do respect the board members I think they are very intelligent men, but ultimately it was the Secretary of State's choice," Kaczala said Thursday. "I am capable of doing this job and I will be capable of continuing to do this job."

Ron Rothenbuler said he can rejoice now that he does not have to try and make people get along anymore. Jon Stainbrook says the report and recommendations by the transparency committee were based 99 percent on hearsay.
