TPS investigating Rogers cheating scandal

Toledo Public Schools is investigating a cheating scandal at Rogers High School that will prevent eleven students from receiving their diplomas.

School officials say those students gained access to a password for the school's grading system and changed their grades from a failing grade to a passing grade.

"We received an anonymous report from one of the students just a few weeks ago," said TPS Chief of Staff Brian Murphy.  "That led into an investigation which then led into some of the students that were found to be involved."

TPS will not file criminal charges against the teens.  They say missing out on graduation is punishment enough for the eleven students.

"They made a mistake," said Murphy.  "At this point we want them to just move past this to move forward.  We still want to support them in terms of getting their diploma in the future."

School officials say the students have signed up for summer school, and if all goes well, they'll be able to participate in graduation this fall.
