Editorial: Take advantage of Toledo-Lucas County Public Library summer reading program

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Every year, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library System offers your kids a chance to join the Summer Reading Club. It's a fun way for children to maintain reading skills even though they are not in school.

Last year more than 20,000 kids participated, yet that is only a small percentage of the total number of school-age children in Lucas County. So there is plenty of room to grow.

When you consider that it's common for teachers to spend the first month of the new school year re-teaching material that students forgot over the summer, it is pretty easy to grasp the positive impact of the summer reading program.

This year's program, "Fizz, Boom, Read," promises to provide your kids with a safe, free and entertaining way to improve reading proficiency. Sounds like a great deal to me. So, hey moms and dads, give it a try.
