Anthony Wayne Bridge project on schedule

The Ohio Department of Transportation says the construction project which has closed the Anthony Wayne Bridge over the Maumee River is right on schedule.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Ohio Department of Transportation says the construction project which has closed the Anthony Wayne Bridge over the Maumee River is right on schedule.

The bridge closed to drivers and pedestrians back in March. The closure is expected to continue through September 2015.

Crews are busy doing deck work and repairing steel on the bridge.

"That is going to take all summer. During the winter we will be looking at the demo of the bridge abutments and that will be taking out that entire section," said ODOT spokesperson Theresa Pollick.

New pavement has already been laid in some areas.

Robert Thorton is just ready for the project to be complete.

"The bridge, number one is an archive of Toledo. To see it come down is going to be different and to see another go up its going to be nice; an upgrade. I like that," said Thorton.

ODOT says they are keeping the historic integrity of the bridge and once complete they will paint it the same color.
