Rossford residents complain of trains blocking roadways

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

There are some serious traffic issues affecting residents of Rossford, all thanks to trains.

Residents say trains block the Glenwood Road railroad crossing for hours. In one case a train blocked the crossing for 27 hours.

The issue has been going on for years. Officials from the city of Rossford say it seems to have picked up recently, and not only occurs at the Glenwood Road crossing, but also at the Lime City Road railroad crossing.

"It just creates a big problem, especially with schools open, the school buses have to find alternate routes to drop off kids or pick them up. So it's a concern. More-so it's a safety concern for police, fire, ambulance services to get to the scene," said Rossford Police Chief Glen Goss.

Chief Goss says there is not much the city can do because railroad issues fall under federal jurisdiction.

The city of Rossford has been reporting the problem to the public utilities commission each and every time it happens.
