Celebrate summer at the Toledo Zoo

The Toledo Zoo offers great reasons to be your family's summer destination and has planned various events throughout the month of June to celebrate.

Daily May 24 through Sept. 1: Natural Feeding and Enrichment Demos, Times vary

See your favorite zoo animals chow down, all summer long. Experience animal-feeding demonstrations and enrichment throughout the zoo, free with regular zoo admission.

June 6: Wine Tastings 2014, 7–9 p.m.

Age 21 & up. "Party with the Penguins" of the all-new Penguin Beach as you enjoy a delectable mix of wine-tasting, hors d'oeuvres, live music and socializing. Advance tickets required. Call 419-385-5721, ext. 6001. Zoo member discount applies.

June 7: Lucas turns 3! 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Come celebrate the third birthday of Lucas the elephant calf. Watch him get presents at 10:30 a.m. and eat -- or destroy -- cake at 1:30 p.m. Free with regular Zoo admission.

Starting June 10: Animal Tales: Fun in the Sun, Times vary

3- and 4-year-olds enjoy a three-part series of charming animal stories, plus songs, games, crafts or zoo animal visits. Separate fee, pre-registration required. Choose from convenient weekday and weekend times.

June 15: Father's Day at the Zoo, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Dads, get free admission when you visit with your family. Games and activities are free with regular zoo admission, plus an opportunity to enjoy a special BBQ lunch (separate fee). Call Group Sales at 419-385-5721, ext. 6001, for BBQ reservations. Walk-ins are welcome if space permits. Zoo member discount applies.

June 9–Aug 15: Summer Safari Camps, Times vary

This summer, don't just go to camp; go on safari. The zoo offers wild opportunities for campers ages 4 through 14. Separate fee, pre-registration required. Zoo member discount applies.

June 18: Watch It Grow Garden Tour, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

With a zoo horticulturist, tour stunning rose, vegetable, butterfly, Van Auken, herb and formal gardens, and get some gardening hints from the experts, too. Reservations are not necessary; just meet at the historic Ziems Conservatory and be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Free with regular zoo admission.

June 20: ZOOtoDO, 6 p.m. – midnight

This chic "tuxedoes and tennis shoes" affair mixes outstanding food (served by 50+ regional restaurants and catering services) with fantastic live entertainment throughout an after-hours zoo. Separate fee; advance tickets required.
