EDITORIAL: Union scholarship program gives back to community

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Once again UAW Region 2-B will award college scholarships to local high school seniors.

The Richard T. Gosser Scholarship Awards Program began in 1962 and since then, more than $2 million has been awarded to deserving and appreciative students.

Ken Lortz, president of the Scholarship Awards Program, will announce the winners on May 21.

This is a great example of a local union and workers giving back to the community. Regardless of the economic conditions, the Gosser Scholarship Program has received overwhelming support from union members. It is a safe bet that at the annual UAW convention in June, this program will receive the necessary votes to continue.

The UAW members should be proud of this accomplishment. Improving the quality of life in our area is a commendable goal.

The UAW deserves recognition for reaching out to outstanding local students with praise and financial support. Well done.
