Tiffin tax credit leads to 20 new jobs at National Machinery

TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

At least 20 new jobs are headed to Tiffin, thanks to a new tax credit and state assistance.

Leaders at National Machinery say they are looking to hire everyone from assembly workers to engineers.

The company's headquarters is based in Tiffin.

"The challenge we have today is: Business is booming, but we don't have capacity," said Bob Foster, Vice President of Finance.

National Machinery manufactures machines and parts. It has a global reach, with customers and facilities all around the world.

Officials say the new "Jobs Creation Tax Credit" program Tiffin launched in November played a big role in choosing the city as it's location to expand.

"Any incentives you can offer can kind of make or break deals," said Mayor Aaron Montz.

Prior to the tax credit, Montz said Tiffin had little to offer potential businesses, other than the two colleges located within the city.

The program gives a tax credit to large business that can offer 150-percent or more in wages to its employees.

"We wanted wages that Tiffinites could live on and not have to supplement their income with two and three jobs," said Montz.

National Machinery is the first company to take advantage of Tiffin's new tax credit.

The company plans to hire a minimum of 20 new employees, but up to 60 job openings are possible.

"Most of our positions here are skilled workers...skilled machinists, skilled assembly people, engineers, mechanical, electrical engineers," said Foster.
