Abandoned west Toledo home called a major safety concern

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

An abandoned home at the corner of Caroline and Clara in west Toledo is being called a major safety concern after parts of the support structure under the house caved, causing the fire department to take action.

Safety tape has been up around the house, but people who live near it say they want more to be done.

The house has been vacant for quite some time, but has only recently been falling apart.  Residents heard some of the brick fall overnight Tuesday.

"The neighbors are really concerned," said Toledo resident Frank Hebert.  "They have a camper out here and they have a car parked in the driveway and they're worried about the whole structure coming down onto their property."

Fire crews say they're in the process of trying to get in touch with the owner.   A city building inspector was also on the scene Wednesday and says they believe the house can be saved, and they don't want to tear it down.
