Walbridge man convicted for sexually assaulting child

Walbridge, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Floyd Wiley, of Walbridge, is behind bars after being convicted of gross sexual imposition for his relations with a minor.

Walbridge police say the 48-year-old was had been sexually assaulting a girl who is under the age of 13 for at least four years.  Wiley was believed to be a friend of the family.

"A community this size, everybody here is family.  We all know each other," said Walbridge Police Chief Kenneth Frost.  "All the officers happen to know the victim and we all took it to heart."

Walbridge residents repeatedly mentioned their disgust at the crime.

"It makes me sick, just thought the thought of it," said resident Emily Whitmore.  "Especially (in) a small town like Walbridge, it's not something you hear about too often."

"Young girls and young people have to watch themselves all the time," said Clyde Sharlow, who lives near the area.

Wiley pled guilty and agreed to a plea agreement.  He was convicted of gross sexual misconduct and sentenced to six years in prison.
