SWANTON, OH (Toledo News Now) - Dozens of people faced a judge Wednesday May 14 for their role in a cockfighting ring in Fulton County. Deputies had seized 72 live roosters from a home in Delta. Our camera was the only one rolling inside the courtroom.

Of the more than 50 people cited, 38 of them appeared in Fulton County Court. The majority pled guilty.

"When your name is called, please have a seat at the defense counsel table to my right… Do you wish to enter a plea this morning?" said the judge.

One after another, individuals charged as spectators approached Judge Colin McQuade admitting guilt. Many of the men required a translator to understand the charge against them.

The charge of spectating during an animal fight comes with a $250 fine. Of the 38 in court Wednesday, only two pled not guilty.

"Can I speak to a prosecutor or an attorney?" asked Juan Arias Rubio.

Rubio is facing two charges. Authorities say they found roosters in the bed of his truck. He was cited with animal cruelty, a second degree misdemeanor and $750 fine.

Court proceedings for the remaining individuals charged with cockfighting and spectating will continue on Thursday.

No one in court has claimed ownership of the animals. Each animal was found with their combs cut off and fresh spikes ready for battle.

Deputies at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office say a few residents have contacted them about adopting the roosters. One man is hoping to breed them. Deputies say they may work with the Fulton County Humane Society to find the birds new homes.
