North Toledo neighborhood considers hiring private security company

People who live near Willy's Park in Toledo say they're looking for more security, and they may soon turn to a private patrol company instead of police.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - People who live near Willy's Park in Toledo say they're looking for more security, and they may soon turn to a private patrol company instead of police.

It's something more and more neighborhoods in Toledo are doing and yours could soon be next.

On Tuesday representatives from Signal 88, a private security and patrol company, stopped by a block watch meeting to talk about their services. Signal 88 representatives say they saw a story right here on WTOL 11 about car break-ins in that area, and that prompted them to get in touch with residents.

A 15 minute patrol costs $15.00, and those who live in the area can choose how often and how many patrols they want.

"I would be one that would be right at the top of the list to pay for something like that, and I think if we got something like that out there where people would be seeing it every day more frequently, I think it would really help crime go down," says Toledo resident, Angelina Montez.

The group did not make a final decision tonight, but hiring Signal 88 is something they are considering.

Signal 88 representatives tell me they're already working in three Toledo neighborhoods including the Burroughs area, Arlington area and the Old West End.
