TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A busy stretch of one of Toledo's main roads is getting a facelift. Crews are grinding down the road and adding fresh pavement to the Anthony Wayne Trail between Detroit and Collingwood.

The road is known as one of the more damaged roads in the area and it is a welcome relief to many that crews have started to work on fixing it.

City officials say the trail, just like many other area roads, took a big hit from the brutal winter. People who drive this busy road say the last few months have been a real challenge.

"On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the worst damage, I'll probably say a 7 at least. They're in pretty bad shape. There's stones flying all over the place. There's potholes. It's hard to dodge them," said Terry Broshious, Toledo resident.

Despite the challenges, area drivers are happy to see city road crews out there.

"It slows down traffic but it's got to be done. The end result is going to be good, hopefully," said Heather Franks, west Toledo resident.

An official from the Toledo Streets, Bridges and Harbor Department says this stretch of the project on Anthony Wayne Trail should be completed soon if the weather cooperates, but they wouldn't give us an exact date.
