CYGNET, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says traffic is moving again on northbound Interstate 75 just north of the Cygnet exit after a semi truck fire Thursday morning.

Around 11:30 a.m., the axle on a semi trailer caught fire. When the driver was unable to put out the flames with his onboard extinguisher, he called 911. The fire then spread into the trailer and ignited the contents.

All traffic was stopped in both northbound lanes, and the Ohio Department of Transportation set up a detour for traffic.

Northbound lanes were closed for around an hour after the semi truck burned in the median. One lane of traffic was opened shortly after noon.

Cygnet and Central Joint fire departments responded and took care of the flames, but needed extra time to cool down hot spots, due to the nature of the shipment inside the truck.

"The problem is, it's a load full of consumer products, obviously for Kroger stores. So there's a lot of combustibles inside that, along with food items, and the fire has gotten between all those boxes. So we're not sure until we clean up how much fire is left inside there," explained Jeff Conley with OSHP.

No injuries were reported from this fire.
