Columbia Gas to launch $5.4M pipeline improvement project in Rossford

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

This month, Columbia Gas will begin a pipeline improvement project in Rossford, replacing approximately 50,000 feet of natural gas mainline. The project area will include streets north of Dixie Highway, east of Riverside Drive and west of Elm Street.

The $5.4 million project will replace existing steel pipe with specially designed plastic pipe that is expected to last 70 years. The project will benefit approximately 1,300 customers.

Columbia Gas will host a public meeting from 6–7 p.m. Thursday at the Rossford Public Library. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information and answer questions from residents in the project area.

Customers may also follow the progress of the project on Facebook.

The construction work may require a temporary interruption of natural gas service for some customers. Impacted customers will be contacted via letter in advance. In addition, Columbia Gas will make personal contact with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule service restoration.

Customers with indoor meters will have them moved outside of the home for safety reasons. Any meter relocation and customer service line replacement will be done at no additional cost to the customer.

This new project is coming on the heels of a water line expansion. Many residents say their yards were just dug up and they are afraid it will happen again.

The project should take six weeks to complete after work begins in about two weeks.

Columbia Gas is spending $2 billion over 25 years to upgrade its 19,000 mile underground pipeline system.

As a reminder, all Columbia Gas employees and contractors carry -- and will easily present -- identification cards bearing their name, photograph, and identification number.
