Toledo Rockets baseball player is a jack of all trades

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Forgive Toledo sophomore Deion Tansel: the guy just has to win.

"I want to beat everyone at everything but at the same time, I'd say I'm pretty nice about it," Tansel says with a slight smile.

Others might disagree.

Then again, it could be just sour grapes.

This year the Anthony Wayne grad is playing his best baseball of his life. He is batting a team high 327.

"It's all about consistency," he explains. "Coming to the park with the same attitude. It's all come together for me this year."

He's good because as teammate Ryan Callahan discovered, he doesn't quit at anything.

"It's fun but frustrating, Callahan said. "Deion why do you have to be good at everything?"

He's a man of many talents. He can obviously hit but he can also juggle. Heck, he's even a master of extreme pong. Give them credit for creativity and even more for hanging with it. Shots took anywhere from 5 to 40 minutes before someone made one. Tansel's competitive drive at it again.

We were in his basement shooting it upstairs and onto the couch," said Callahan. "That one took the longest. Actually we got it but I forgot to hit the recorder so we had to keep going and try to do it again."

Tansel didn't mind.

After all, just like in baseball, the guy just has to be the best.
