Toledo-made Cherokee helps boost Chrysler sales

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

New numbers just released show Chrysler had another major jump in sales, mostly thanks to the Toledo-made Cherokee.

Chrysler sales are up 14 percent, and workers say it's great news for the city.

"It's just been a lot of positives going on in Toledo," said Denny Amrhein of Grogan's Towne Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.  "I think everybody's feeling a lot better about where we're going and where we were."

Amrhein says his dealership is thriving, and so is the auto industry in Toledo.

"I think a lot of it has to do with the economy coming back," said Amhrein.  "Chrysler put a lot of workers back to work in Toledo at the plants and that brings a lot of business."

The Chrysler plants in Toledo produce the Jeep Wrangler, which is also showing a 14 percent sales jump from a year ago.  They also produce the new Jeep Cherokee.  Chrysler driver seem to be enjoying the better gas mileage, among other features.

The 14 percent increase in Chrysler sales is the biggest yearly increase in car sales for the company since 2007.
