Only on 11: Undercover police check out security of school entrances

ROSSFORD, OHIO (TOLEDO NEWS NOW) -

Just how safe are your children at school? Our cameras were rolling as police checked the security of Rossford Schools. Not even the school administration knew what police were up to.

Our reporter Maia Belay spent the day undercover with Rossford Police and has the exclusive story you're only going to see on 11.

Police rattled more than a dozen doors, checking to see just how easy it is for someone to sneak into the school.

Walking in the rain with her red hooded sweatshirt on, you can't tell the person is actually an undercover Rossford police officer.

"Because the students leave at lunch time is a concern that they might prop doors open or things to get back in easier," said Officer Jodi Johnson, Rossford Police.

Officer Johnson found that each door was locked up tight. She was even confronted by a teacher and it turns out that is exactly what staff members are supposed to do to keep students safe.

"By the third door we got to, the coach greeted me at the door and asked if he could help. Being that we both had hoods on and he didn't know who it was, it's nice he came to the door and asked if we needed any assistance," said Johnson.

It appears people are heeding the warnings of the Do Not Enter signs. Not a single door was left unlocked, making it difficult for even this officer to find a way in.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round. They will play the winner of the Fort Wayne and ...
