LUCAS COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - The Toledo community is remembering baby Elaina Steinfurth Friday April 25 night. Every April, Lucas County Children Services remembers children who have lost their lives because of child abuse.
Friday's 15th annual child memorial was dedicated to Elaina. The focus of the event was to remember those children who have died because of child abuse.
The Scott High School choir and many community leaders were at the event. From 2012-2013, 12 children in Lucas County have lost their life to some form of child abuse. The most recent case was Elaina.
Many of baby Elania's family members were in attendance. They say events like these are needed to inform the community about the form of abuse that took the life of their little loved one.
"It's just nice to see that the community can still come together to keep her name alive and we don't want her forgotten," said Terry Steinfurth Senior.
The event will hopefully bring an end to child endangerment in all forms.
