(WMC) - A mother is grieving after her 11-year-old son was killed in a crash in Fayette County.

She talked to WMC Action News 5 hours after the man accused of driving the car was arrested on Thursday.

Randel Burnett is charged with vehicular homicide. Investigators said he crashed his car with four children inside while on a beer run .

Brandon Anderson, 11, had only been in Rossville for a week when the crash happened. His mother, brothers, and sisters are trying to come to terms with the horrible loss of a boy they describe as a shining star.

"When I got to the hospital, of course, I just wanted to see my child," said mother Andrea Bass. "I couldn't even recognize my own child. I seriously had to pull down the blanket and look at his body in order to identify my child."

The beautiful blue-eyed boy died in a horrific crash almost two weeks ago near Rossville.

His three friends survived with serious injuries. Brandon had been spending the night with his friends when 25-year-old Burnett, who lived in a camper on the property and decided to go on a beer run. The four boys went with him.

Investigators say Burnett had been drinking when he was speeding down Highway 194. He lost control and flipped the Mini Cooper throwing everyone out of the car.

"I want him put away for life obviously, and that's still not enough. That's still he could be tortured everyday and it wouldn't come close," said Bass.

Bass and teachers say Brandon was the kind of kid who made an impression on everyone he came across. Even at 11, he was an expert skate boarder beating 18 year olds in competition. He played basketball and played the drums.

He had five brothers and sisters. His mother did head counts to keep up.

"Now when I do head counts, and my numbers are all wrong, because Brandon is missing and it breaks my heart," said Bass.

Bass knows whatever happens to Randel Burnett it will not bring her son back.

"Who had so much promise and hope and a chance of being somebody. He was just a great kid," said Bass.

Brandon donated organs to six different children. His mother said it does give her some comfort that he helped save some lives.
