(WMC) - A family is mourning after a 2-year-old was struck and killed by a minivan.

It happened late Thursday afternoon at the Warren Apartments in the 1300 block of Clementine Road, which is located just off Elvis Presley Boulevard near the interstate.

Officials say the toddler's death may provide a lesson for other parents.

"Watch your children. Don't let them run in the streets, of course, but the main thing is watch your children," said MPD major Venus Owens.

Police are still investigating the death of the child that cast a somber mood on an already gloomy evening on Thursday at the South Memphis apartment complex.

But it appeared the driver of the green minivan never saw the little boy dart out in front of him. He was playing in the street.

Police said the driver was on Clementine to pick up his own child after school. The driver was so upset he reportedly kicked out one of his van windows.

The 2-year-old, Isaiah Tanora, died at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

"We ain't taking no blames or no shames, we need your help. We're talking about a young baby who is gone before his time," said aunt Natasha Jones.

Friends and family joined together Friday to collect donations for 2-year-old Isaiah's funeral. If you would like to help just email WMC Action News 5's Jason Miles at jasonmiles@wmctv.com.

No charges are expected in what appears to be just a tragic accident.
