TFD fights two morning fires at the same time

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Fire Department was fighting two active fires at the same time Thursday morning, April 24. One in south and another in west Toledo.

Flames first broke out at an apartment complex on Rockspring Road, which is in south Toledo near Southwyck.

The fire reportedly started in an apartment on the third floor.  Crews arrived around 5 a.m. to see flames shooting out of the building, but everyone got out safely.  The blaze was mostly contained to one apartment, but apartments below the unit suffered smoke and water damage.

Crews at the scene of the first fire say one firefighter was taken to the hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties.  Officials say three families were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is helping those families get back on their feet.

The second fire was at Sidelines Pub on Mellwood, which is in west Toledo near the Five Points. Crews say the blaze started when a lighting fixture on the roof short circuited. There was some smoke damage to the entrance to the building, but he restaurant is open.
