TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A garage fire has completely destroyed a local family business in the 1700 block of Sylvania Ave. in west Toledo that happened early Wednesday morning.

Toledo fire officials say they are confident that the fire started in the garage of Floorcraft Designs around 2 a.m. and then the fire spread to two neighboring garages and a shed.

One company vehicle was destroyed in the flames, with some others suffering damage.

"My dad called and said ‘Hey have you watched the news, our garage caught on fire,' so it burnt to the ground, so it was a little surreal," said Erinn Wilson of Floorcraft Designs and Radon Environmental Services.

The Fire Chief says he suspects arson as the cause of the fire.  The scene reportedly had a strong smell of gasoline when fire crews arrived.

"Firefighter investigators were here shortly after the incident started. They've conducted their investigation and they continue that process. It is listed as undetermined at this point," said Lieutenant Matthew Hertzfeld, Toledo Fire Department.

This fire has left the Floorcraft Designs family business and people living nearby picking up the pieces. The business office suffered smoke damage and some fire damage, as did an insurance agency next door.

"We can't help it so let's just move forward and keep moving, keep our customers happy and keep going. It's sad to see," said Wilson.

Neighbor Santiago Urbino woke up to the nightmare of the raging fire. His quick actions may have helped save lives and kept the fire from spreading. His call to 911 alerted firefighters to the scene quickly to battle the fire.

Urbino and his family, including a very sick mother, were able to escape unharmed.

"I had noticed that there was a strong odor of smoke so I opened my window up and I had seen a big flame of smoke in the garage and automatically I called 911," said Urbino.

The family lost many items that were in the garage.

No one was injured in the incident.
