(WMC) - A Mid-South mom is angry after her son came home from day care with injuries.

The Cordova mother says she did not know about her son's head injury until she picked him up. Pictures show multiple scrapes on the child's face.

The child says he fell on a step.

LeThesica Kuykendall says Nolton Banks was injured at day care Thursday. Kuykendall says it has been emotional.

"When I first saw him, I couldn't [do] anything but cry," she said

She says her daughter and mom picked up 2-year-old Nolton Banks from Discovery Learning Center in Cordova Thursday, and it took a long time for employees to bring little Nolan out.

Her daughter called Kuykendall to tell her about the injuries so Kuykendall left work to tend to her son.

"If they would have just called me," said Kuykendall. "Imagine you picking your child up, no phone call or anything and your child looks like that."

State records show Discovery Learning Center is in compliance with state regulations and it has the top rating in almost every category with three stars. It has two stars in regards to ratio of employees to group size and the program assessment.

Kuykendall says she is sharing her story to warn other parents wherever their children go to day care.

"This should be a learning experience. You're supposed to notify a parent immediately when something happens to them," said Kuykendall.

The daycare released the following statement:

"Discovery Zone staff regret that the child fell under our care. Staff and supervisors follow all DHS rules and regulations when dealing with any incident/accident. The incident occurred late afternoon on 4/17. Discovery Zone was closed 4/18-4/20. Management staff upon arrival early Monday and Tuesday morning did contact parent to check on the child and offer best wishes."
