This stay of unusually warm October weather has a countdown to cool. Highs will stay in the 70s and even reach to just shy of record 80s on Saturday before it all comes to a close. The end of the warmth begins late Sunday evening as showers sweep across the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. This late weekend system will be just the start to a cooler pattern next week; that will bring our coolest temperatures of the season so far.

FOSTORIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Fostoria has a new fire chief, but the city's safety forces are already pretty familiar with him. Current Fire Chief Keith Loreno will become the city's Police Chief.

Chief Loreno has served as the city's fire chief since 2010.  Prior to that, he was an arson investigator for the State Fire Marshal's Office, a sergeant with the Sycamore Police Department and a Fire Prevention Officer at Ohio State University.

The former police chief, John McGuire, retired in December, after being out on medical leave since July 2012.

It was a unanimous decision Tuesday night to hire Loreno for the new role.  The pay likely wasn't a factor for him. Loreno's salary, just over $69,000 will only go up about $1,500 annually.

Loreno says he viewed the new role as a new challenge and was approached by several people about taking the position. Loreno admits, he is nervous about the switch over.

"It's a big change; making sure that I can do the job 100 percent. I always have high expectations of myself, and I hope I can meet those," said Loreno.

Loreno will remain fire chief until city council's next meeting on May 6. A selection committee will be created to hire a new fire chief.
