Veterans Honor Flight could come to Tri-State

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Some people in the Tri-State are taking steps towards bringing a Veterans Honors Flight to Evansville - something that's never been done here before.

It's possible in 2015 a plane will be flying out of Evansville Regional Airport carrying Tri-State veterans to Washington D.C. where they'd be able to see all of the war monuments for the very first time.

Honor Flights are already happening all over the country.

If you've never heard of them, they're one day trips free for veterans from all wars.

The veterans get to see D.C.  and when they arrive back home they are given a warm welcome - one they never got when they came home from war.

Some in Evansville decided they'd like to see our local veterans get a chance to do this so they've created an Honor Flight Committee.

They had their first meeting Wednesday to start planning.

The people who are trying to bring the Honor Flight to Evansville say they can't do it without the support of the community. They need sponsors and donations to really get the ball rolling.
