Jerome Carter's bond was set at $1 million Wednesday, but he will be back in court again Thursday, once he gets an attorney.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - On Wednesday morning, Jerome Carter faced a judge for the first time since being charged with murder.

According to Toledo Police, Carter was arrested Monday for assaulting Jeffrey Miller-Lee over the weekend. They say Carter and another unidentified man attacked Miller-Lee, before Carter threw him onto the sidewalk.

Miller-Lee died Tuesday at the hospital.

Carter's mother says there's more to the story.

"I don't have no perfect children, but there's something else behind that story. He just don't go around doing stuff like this," said Gayle Carter. "But I do sympathize for the family, and they will be in my prayers."

Carter faced felonious assault and driving without a license charges before the murder charges were added Tuesday. Police say Carter also has a warrant for aggravated robbery out of Bowling Green.

In the courtroom Wednesday, Carter's bond was set at $1 million.

He will be back in court on Thursday, once he gets an attorney.
