(WMC-TV) - It is considered a form of medical marijuana and Tuesday, it passed both the Tennessee House and Senate. The bill allowing cannabis oil is expected to be signed by Governor Bill Haslam.

Cannabis oil can treat people with rare disorders, including a young Memphis girl suffering from constant seizures.

"She was having hundreds of seizures a day," said Peden Grauer. "She's a sweet baby. She's such a sweet girl."

Peden Grauer's 2-year-old daughter, Chloe, suffers from a seizure disorder that requires 24 hour care. The family has nurses and uses almost a dozen medications to control the seizures.

The Grauers believe a special cannabis oil made from a marijuana strain that does not get you high could improve Chloe's quality of life. It contains CBD. Studies in Colorado show that CBD can help children with seizure disorders.

"It's always behind your mind that she's a seizure away from dying," said Chloe's grandmother Gail Grauer.

The Grauer family received the news Tuesday that the bill allowing cannabis oil in Tenn. passed overwhelmingly in the house and senate and is expected to get the governor's signature.

The way it is set up: The strain of marijuana that has no intoxicating effects will be grown at Tennessee Tech and the cannabis oil will be produced about six to eight months after it's planted, meaning children like Chloe should get the relief they need early next year.

Tennessee lawmakers passed this form of medical marijuana helping people who need the medicine to live a more productive life.
