TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Testimony continued in the trial of a Toledo mother accused of killing her own child. On Monday, the jury heard from Amanda Bacon, accompanied by interrogation videos.
Interrogation video lasted several hours. During the questioning, Bacon can be heard changing her story to police. The story she stuck to was that she left baby Avery in the care of her roommate, and that's when she believes he was injured.
Witnesses testified last week that when Bacon showed up at the hospital, she said her baby was injured after she went to the bathroom, and he fell off the bed they were sleeping on.
Hours later, she told investigators in this interrogation video a much different story. Bacon claimed she left her baby with Frank Jones, her roommate, and when she got home, the baby had a bump on his head and his ears were turning purple. This was just one of the inconsistencies investigators say they picked up on.
Det. Quinn: Why didn't you tell the truth?
Amanda: I wasn't there. I didn't know what happened. I was freaking out (inaudible).
Amanda: We were going to the hospital. I didn't know what happened.
Amanda: I did know what to say. I was in shock and I asked Frank what happened.
Amanda: What should I tell them? I wasn't even there.
Amanda: I didn't know what happened. I never thought he would put his hands on my kid.
Det. Quinn: How do you know that he did? How do I know you didn't?
Amanda: Because I would never hurt my child.
