Beating allergies starts with getting new parents

Avoid allergens you find the most aggravating. Avoid allergens you find the most aggravating.

(WMC-TV) - With spring in full bloom, allergy season is upon us. And escaping your allergy symptoms is as easy as getting new parents, according to Dr. Steve Cole. He is kidding, of course, but he does offer some good advice for allergy sufferers.

Instead of going to school Thursday morning, Tavaria Lockett headed to the doctor's office in search of some relief from her allergies.

"My nose just stopped up," she said. "It's running whenever it feels like. I'm just sneezing constantly."

Lockett is hardly alone.

"People are sneezing, itchy eyes, watery eyes, runny nose, stuffy nose," said Dr. Steve Cole, Allergy and Asthma Center.

Dr. Cole says his Allergy and Asthma Center has been packed daily for weeks. He says genetics play a big role in allergies.

So aside from finding new parents, Dr. Cole suggests beating allergies starts with a daily over the counter regiment about one week before the first symptoms set in. And avoid allergens you find the most aggravating.

"Worst time of the day for the pollen is in the morning," he advised. "That's when most of the plants release their pollen. That's the worst time. So if you're a jogger, don't jog first thing in the morning."
