Transparency Board meets with Lucas County Board of Elections

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Secretary of State John Husted's Transparency Board met with members of the Lucas County Board of Elections for the first time on Wednesday.

The four member committee consists of two democrats and two republicans.

Board members and officials were questioned for more than 5 hours on several issues, including employee policies about vacation, comp and sick time and how each has been used in the past.

The discussion got heated at times as some board members tried to defend themselves. The board's new director and deputy director were asked what the work environment is like at the board of elections.

Board members were asked about their experience and whether or not they've ever felt threatened by others in the work place.

One issue that concerned the committee was the fact three employees have stopped showing up for work so close to May's election.

Another concern is that police have been called within the past few years.

The questions will continue with all employees.  The transparency committee will make weekly visits until the May election.
