Man convicted on seven child sex charges

HICKORY, NC (WBTV) -

A Hickory man was convicted and sentenced on child sex offense charges in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.

After a four-day trial, the jury found 39-year-old Paul Steven Harper guilty of two counts felony statutory sex offense of a 13, 14, or 15 year old, and five counts of felony attempted statutory rape of a 13,14, or 15 year old.

Officials say the crime occurred between June 2011 and January 2012 in Hickory.

Harper was sentenced to serve between 313 and 390 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections.

Upon his release, Harper will be required to register with the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry for a period of 30 years.

    Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation has offered up its drones to take aerial pictures of schools. Those pictures could then help police if they had to respond to an active shooter or other emergency. Attorney General Mike DeWine said that mandated school safety plans are required to include floor plans, and aerial pictures are an optional supplement.
